Our first Signature Collection is now available for presale! We want to share a bit with you about how our presale process will work and why we chose to go this route.

First, presale means that the orders you place now will enable MADRE to put this Signature Collection into production. Often referred to as “crowdsourcing,” we are reflecting on this approach as part of a feminine or relational economy. The masculine/dominant culture and economy often asks/encourages small businesses to take on un-sustainable debt or give away ownership in order to succeed. By rejecting this model, we are attempting to live our values and in doing so perhaps disrupt the status quo. When our community’s purchases can kickstart linen home essentials production, you are working with us to incubate and grow MADRE’s radical business model. As Jenn Armbrust of Sister.is is always reminding us, we must embody our values by “build[ing] structures and practices in alignment with [our] values and deeply-held beliefs.”   

Second, we offer that shopping this way encourages us to consider what is actually required to get a product into someone’s hands. What if faster isn’t actually better? Our dear friend, whom we very much admire, Megan deBoer of Tended Wealth, wrote last month on her Instagram account about the relational economy, asking, “What changes when we slow down, save up, engage with the maker, and allow the anticipation of what we bring into our lives to also fill us up? What if we allow the whole process to be an honoring? This is, in itself, a radical retreat from “consuming.””
