MADRE is committed to listening, to decolonizing our own ways of being in the world, and to continually striving towards anti-racism.
We are keenly aware of the difficulty that comes with working to dismantle white supremacy, which truthfully requires the complete destruction of capitalism and the dreaming of something new, and also needing to house/feed/clothe/support our families. Acknowledging the responsibility that comes with our budding business, we want to share with you our plans to proceed given our inherently anti-capitalist, pro-feminine economy stance, and our anti-racist goal.
Supply Chain. Starting in June 2020, we effort to buy from 20% BIPOC suppliers, with a commitment to growing that number to 30% in the next 12 months.
Promotion. MADRE will use its platform to center and promote BIPOC people, events, and businesses in Portland whenever possible.
Financial Commitment. MADRE commits to donating 2% of all sales, on a monthly basis, to a rotating roster of BIPOC organizations. For the foreseeable future we will focus our monthly donation on Black-led and Black supporting organizations.
